A man has been arrested after two paramedics were stabbed during a callout to a home in Wolverhampton.
The paramedics, a man and a woman, were attacked at about 12.30pm on Monday after attending a callout to check on the welfare of a man at a property in Stephens Close, West Midlands Police said.
They were both stabbed and were taken to hospital with serious injuries but are now in a stable condition.
A police officer who was with the paramedics arrested a 52-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of wounding.
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) added that a man was tasered by police officers at the scene and was treated by other ambulance staff.
Anita Millard, who lives next door, said a man lived alone at the property and his elderly mother had raised concerns for his welfare after he failed to answer the door.
The 65-year-old said two paramedics arrived with two police officers and they managed to gain entry by borrowing a screwdriver from a neighbour and removing a door panel with it.
A statement from WMAS said: "Shortly after arrival, the crew used their emergency alert to say that they had been stabbed.
"Three additional ambulances, two Midlands Air Ambulances and the West Midlands Care Team attended the scene along with three paramedic officers.
"The two members of staff, both paramedics, have been treated at the scene by doctors and paramedics and have been taken to hospital for further treatment."
Superintendent Simon Inglis, from Wolverhampton Police: said: "This is a shocking incident resulting in serious injuries to two of our blue light colleagues.
"We are treating it as an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack."
The property has been cordoned off while enquiries continue.
