Defence review: Cuts leave armed forces 'too small to be credible' - The Times

More than 100 aircraft will be axed, dozens of tanks scrapped and thousands of army jobs lost as more money is spent on drones and robots as part of the biggest shake-up of the military since the end of the Cold War.

Ben Wallace, the defence secretary, said he was turning “hollow forces into credible ones” as he announced sweeping reforms including a restructuring of the army and billions of pounds of investment in new kit. “We have taken a hard headed and unsentimental view of those capabilities that will be less relevant to the changing threat,” the 66-page defence command paper published yesterday stated.
