'Bullying' report chief Alex Allan quits after PM backs Priti Patel - The Times

Boris Johnson’s adviser on ministerial standards quit his post today after the prime minister overruled his advice and cleared Priti Patel of bullying allegations.

A report by Sir Alex Allan found that the home secretary shouted and swore at officials in her department, amounting to “behaviour that can be described as bullying”, in breach of the ministerial code.

Yet Mr Johnson decided to stand by his home secretary. He overruled Sir Alex’s advice and concluded that the “ministerial code was not breached” and that the “matter was now closed”.

Sir Alex said that although he recognised it was for the prime minister to “make a judgment on whether actions by a minister amounts to a breach of the code” he could not remain in post.
