Nicola Sturgeon warned England’s fishing sector is not suffering the same fate as Scotland - Express

The Conservative MP for Great Grimsby told Express.co.uk Scotland has always done its own thing as far as fishing is concerned. Ms Nici added that Nicola Sturgeon can continue to do her own thing because the Scottish fishing industry is distinct from England.

Ms Nici said: "I don’t think we need to do that in the English fishing industry.

"I am monitoring the industry with my Grimsby companies.

"As I have said before Scotland has always had different agreements, it has done its own thing as far as fishing is concerned.

"As a devolved country it makes its own arrangements.

"All of the companies I have talked to have been able to take advantage of all of the nonspecific fishing help that is on offer."

She continued: "So, I don’t think we need to do any more.

"Nicola Sturgeon will continue to do her own thing.

"The fishing industry in Scotland is distinct from the fishing industry in England and always has been."

In April 2020, Ms Sturgeon announced she had pumped a further £3.5million into the Scottish seafood, fishing and aquaculture sectors in a bid to halt the devastating economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

"The Government is already providing a range of support for the seafood, aquaculture and fishing industries and that includes help for businesses with smaller vessels.

"Today I can announce that we are allocating a further £3.5million of support for fishing vessels of over 12 metres.

"That means in total over 1000 businesses will be eligible for support.

"It brings our overall package of support for the seafood, fishing and aquaculture sectors to nearly £23million.

"Providing that kind of emergency support is essential because it helps to deal with the immediate impact that this virus is having on the economy."
