Boris Johnson is poised to set out a “roadmap” to ease the lockdown on Monday and must balance reopening the economy with suppressing coronavirus. The measures he chooses to ease and retain will prove pivotal.
Exercising outdoors
The prime minister is expected to announce that people can exercise outdoors as much as they like from Monday. Under present guidance people are restricted to going outside to exercise once a day.
Government scientists have concluded that the transmission rate is far lower in the open air than it is indoors. However, golf courses, tennis clubs and fishing lakes are unlikely to reopen until next month.
