The UK has reported another 519 coronavirus-linked deaths and 21,502 cases.
It is a significant increase on last Saturday, when 15,539 cases were recorded, alongside 397 related deaths.
On Friday, reported UK deaths were also lower at 424, while cases were broadly the same at 21,672.
Total coronavirus deaths in the UK now stand at 64,025.
Most of the deaths (440) reported on Saturday were in England, 39 in Scotland, 31 in Wales and 9 in Northern Ireland.
The seven-day average of daily UK cases is 17,855 today - up from 15,308 from last Saturday. For deaths the average is 432, up only slightly on the 428 this time last week.
The increase in cases comes as the country's R number range rose slightly to an estimated 0.9-1.0, from 0.8-1.0 the previous week.
A number above 1 means the outbreak is growing, and below 1 that it is shrinking.
The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) said on Friday it was not confident that R was below 1 in all English regions, particularly in London and parts of the South East.
It also said the data more accurately represents the average situation over the past few weeks rather than present-day.
A much-anticipated review of England's tier system happens on Wednesday amid speculation that some areas such as London could move to the most restrictive Tier 3.
The first wave of Tier 3 areas to get quick turnaround mass testing of people without symptoms has also been announced.
The scheme was successfully piloted in Liverpool and will now be expanded across England as a central part of the government's plan to drive down infections.
Meanwhile, the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is set to be rolled out to GP surgeries within days.
From Tuesday, people will be able to receive the vaccine at GP practices, a week after the first approved vaccines were administered in hospitals across the UK.
