Five people appear in court charged with murder after student, 19, shot dead on way to Lidl - The Sun

FIVE people have appeared in court charged with the murder of law a student shot dead as she walked to the supermarket near her home.

Aya Hachem, 19, was shot in the chest by a bullet fired from a car on Kings Road in Blackburn, Lancs, on Sunday afternoon.

Feroz Suleman, 39, of Shear Brow, Blackburn and Abubakir Satia, 31, of Oxford Close, Blackburn; Uthman Satia, 28, of Oxford Close, Blackburn; Judy Chapman, 26, of St Hubert’s Road, Great Harwood and Kashif Manzoor, 24, of Shakeshaft Street, Blackburn, appeared before Preston magistrates today.

The five are accused of murdering Aya and attempting to murder a man - named in court as Pashar Khan - who police believe was the intended target.

The defendants, who only spoke to confirm their name, address, date of birth and nationality, were all remanded in custody and are due to appear at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday.

Magistrates agreed to a three-month closure order submitted by Lancashire Police relating to RI Tyres - owned by Suleman and close to where Aya was shot.

Emergency services were scrambled to King Street in Blackburn just after 3pm on Sunday.

Detectives said two shots were fired from a Toyota Avensis car with the first bullet hitting a building and the second killing the University of Salford law student as she walked past.

Paramedics battled to save Aya, a Children’s Society charity volunteer, whose family had moved to Britain from Lebanon.

She was taken to hospital but died a short while later.

Aya was shot 100 metres from where she lived with mum Samar and dad Ismail and their three younger children.

Her heartbroken dad Ismail Hachem paid tribute to his "strong" eldest daughter with a "pure soul".

The dad-of-four wrote on Facebook: "My strong daughter lawyer Aya Ismail Hashem God's mercy on your pure soul.

"Hey who broke our back with your horizon you were all dream, science and morals.

"Oh Allah, inspire us with patience and solace.”

A total of 13 people have been arrested in connection with her murder.

Two men, aged 34 and 39, from Blackburn, arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder remain in custody.

Two men, aged 33 and 36, from Blackburn arrested on Monday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 35-year-old man from Blackburn arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday and a 29-year-old man from Blackburn also arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assisting an offender have both also been released under investigation.

Also released under investigation are a woman, 19, from Blackburn who was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of assisting an offender and a 29-year-old woman from Blackburn arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

A man, 22, from Blackburn, arrested on Friday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder has been released without charge.

Detective Supt Andy Cribbin, of Lancashire Police, said: “While we have now charged a number of people in connection with Aya’s murder our enquiries are very much on-going.

“I would like to thank all those who have come forward to assist with our investigation so far and to continue to encourage people to come and speak to us if they have information.”
